Iron man Phil Petersen of Great Wellington Regional Council checks out the water quaity of Porirua stream. Four complaints were received from local residents, the first lodged at about 6:30 a.m. on Thursday, 7th December.
The stream appears to be contaminated with iron sediment, which was in the stream which flows under Westchester Drive (east side) by the motorway.
Wellington Water is flushing out pipes at 1 Westchester Drive and it is possible the water from these works, which is being discharged onto land above the stream, is soaking through the ground and making its way downstream.
Phil is making more inquiries to find out what the problem may be.
